Stocked up on Acuvue Oasys from Optik Seis.

Acuvue Indonesia has been advertising their products pretty ambitiously lately, including a buy-2-get-1 for Acuvue Oasys in stores. I always shop offline at Optik Seis for soft lenses, so I decided to go the BIP branch.

On normal price, a box of Oasys is priced at 290.000,- but since I bought them on sale, I got 3 boxes for 580.000,- which is such a steal!!

However, Optik Seis ran out of stock for my size/power. I use -3.75 lenses for both eyes. They only had 2 boxes left, so they told me they would have to order the other box for me. But, lo and behold! They offered to ship the box to my house FOR FREE. Apparently it's part of their service, which I think is fantastic.

The lady at the shop also showed me how to install the Optik Seis app on my phone so I could order online. Each purchase adds points to my account. The app also informs me of discounts or promos that are going on. And the shipping is FREEEEEEE. Free shipping is always welcome in my book. (What free stuff isn't, anyways?)

The Acuvue sale is on-going till December 31st, 2015.

Rainy season is here, and it's here with a vengeance.

It's been raining every single day in Bandung lately. Not the beautiful kind of rain with a little sunshine between the drops, no. This is hardcore rain with tree-swaying wind and roaring thunder. Bring an umbrella with you, folks. We're in for this for a good time.

Color on eyes.

My sister's eyelids, to be precise. I rarely play with these kind of colors, actually. Normally I tend to stick to neutrals and nudes.

Hauls coming in.

It's crazy.

So two of my close relatives were on a business trip abroad, one to UK, the other to USA. Which of course, prompted my sister and I to order a lot of beauty products via these two travellers. So far, our mini-haul from UK has arrived.

Collection eyeshadow is gorgeous for such an affordable price. I'm keeping that in mind for the next opportunity, whenever that may come.

The VS Pink sweatshirt was more of a gift. It's cute, and since the rainy season is just around the corner, it'll definitely come in handy.

Avène Hydrance SPF is exactly how I thought it would be, a light cream, almost like a lotion. No heavy fragrances, definitely great for sensitive skin.

Can't wait for the USA haul to come in!

Amphibious life.

Living in two different cities and having to shuttle back and forth between both isn't bad, per se, but it does have its demerits.

For instance, if you accidentally forget to bring something with you to the other city, it's not like you can go home during lunch hour to pick the firgotten something up. Which in my case, happens to be my tripod mount.

Keeping the story short, I brought the camera with me once to Jakarta, with the mount attached to the bottom of it. I took the mount off because I was going to film a vlog hand-held. Then I took the camera with me back to Bandung, sans mount.

And to this very day, I keep on forgetting to bring the mount back with me to Bandung. Thus the lack of YouTube video updates.

I will update once I have the mount back in my possession. Many apologies.

Shoes, oh, shoes.

Are you a cutesy shoe type of person? Or are you a heavy duty shoe type of person?

Personally, I'm a heavy duty shoe type of person. I once bought a pair of flat shoes because I saw other people wearing them and the shoes looked cute on those other people. However, those flat shoes were completely ruined after using them for less than three months. So I gave up on using cute flat shoes. I reverted back to using thick-soled oxfords. At least, they can last for a year on me.

What kind of shoes do you wear daily?

VLOG: The Body Shop beauty class with Lensza.co.id and Holi Cat | #lenszaTBS

YAY FOR 400 SUBS!

A couple weeks ago, I took part in TBS' beauty class which was co-sponsored by Lensza and Holi Cat! For more detailed coverage on the event, take a peek at my blog! :)

No, TBS/Lensza/Holi Cat did not sponsor this video. But since the event was so fun, I let the reps put in a plug.

Emina beauty class with Arsya Nafisa | #eminaplayground

Another beauty class! This time it was held by Emina, a local cosmetic brand. I previously reviewed a few of their products if you're curious about them. Anyways, this time I was accompanied by my friend Dovi and we arrived on time. (Ha!)

The session was led by Arsya Nafisa, who is a local beauty blogger here in Indonesia. She is the cutest thing ever! Her gradient hair is gorgeous!

The theme of the event was Pink Aurora, so basically we tried to incorporate pink into our make up. These are my before-and-after mug shots.

After the first session, the event organizers provided us with lunch before moving into the second session which was about nail art. The type of nail art we tried out was the dotting technique. I managed to make flowers.

Afterwards, they gave us freebies! Yeay! There were three items in the gift bag: Lip Shine Liquid in Carnation Pink which is a lip gloss, Pop Rouge in Nude which is a tiny eye shadow palette, and City Chic CC Cake in Meringue which is a compact powder. They also included a mini make up pouch and an Emina notebook. (These notebooks are cute btw, I made a review about them in my Emina and Make Over products' review video.)

And cue, the selfie galore!

Me and Dovi in the obligatory mirror selfie ritual:

The Body Shop beauty class with Lensza.co.id and Holi Cat | #lenszaTBS

So as I mentioned in a previous post, I was selected to take part in The Body Shop's beauty class that's a joint event by The Body Shop, Lensza, and Holi Cat. The beauty class was today, and it was so much fun!

First, let's start with my major stupidity. Felicia from Lensza contacted all the participants with the time and place of the event. But somehow, Plaza Senayan registered in my head as Plaza Indonesia. I DON'T KNOW WHY. It's not like I've never been to both places. I practically went to Plaza Senayan every freaking day over the last two semesters! O_O It's just one of those moments when my brain autoloads and gets it all wrong then shuts down.

Eighties orange lipstick.

It was a spur of the moment kind of thing, but I participated in Lensza's photo competition on Instagram and got selected. The competition was sponsored by The Body Shop, so I busted out my trustee Face and Body brush from TBS. I also used their Vitamin E moisturizing cream (more on that later) and tea tree oil. Oh, and I also used their angled brush for my eyebrows. I love TBS brushes, but they've gotten so pricey over the years!

The softlens I use are Acuvue Oasys, which I got from Lensza.co.id as usual. It's my holy grail. When in doubt, use Oasys.

That super bright orange lipstick? NYX Black Label lipstick in Citrine. I've had this for ages. It's so retro 80s!

The Expense of Beauty. The Beauty of Expense.

As you may know, I currently work in Jakarta. Previously, I stayed at my parents' place whenever I had to spend the night in Jakarta. Recently, my parents decided to move back to Bandung, which prompted me to search for my own place in Jakarta. Fortunately, I found a relatively affordable place in the middle of the city which allowed me to commute to my office under half an hour.

The thing is no matter how affordable the place is, it still makes a monthly dent in my savings. This additional expense has me rethinking a lot of my other expenses, i.e. my beauty expenses. Since I ended up doubling up on a lot of my products (for Bandung and Jakarta), I've come to realize that a rather good portion of a woman's income goes to consumer goods, more specifically, to beauty products.

Just today, I bought some hair products that I needed to stock up for the house in Bandung. Three products in total: shampoo, conditioner, and a curious hair mask that I willingly will admit bought out of sheer curiosity.

Total cost: IDR 109.500,-

That's effin' expensive!

For those who don't live in Indonesia, and don't know Indonesia living cost standards, just as a comparison, when I stay in Jakarta, I can buy a simple lunch of rice, chicken with veggies on the side for around IDR 15.000,- to 16.000,-.

My shampoo and conditioner could provide me 10 days worth of lunches!

My validation would be that my hair can no longer stand shampoos that contain SLS/SLES. Therefore any local-produced shampoo has to be written off. The validation for the conditioner is that my hair gets very dry easily. And for the hair mask, ...nope, there isn't any excuses for that one. It was an impulse buy, really.

Recently, a meme about lipsticks has been circulating in the social media. The tagline basically goes, "The reason why women need to work is because men have no idea how much beauty costs." It's illustrated by comparing a $5 lipstick with a $50 one.

Now, while I don't give two shits--pardon my French--about what men think about my lipstick, I find the meme does have a point in that a lot on a woman's income goes to appearance costs, whether it's apparel or beauty.

Back to the shampoo case: on one hand, I feel like I'm spending an awful lot on a fleeting sense of vanity. In the other hand, I don't want to live with an itchy scalp for the rest of my life.

This conundrum does get me thinking about how much of it is really necessary. Is it really necessary for me to spend more than a hundred thousand on hair products? Are the results worth the extra bucks? And do the results really have an impact on the quality of the life I'm living?

Where exactly is the line between spending in the name of comfort and spending in the name of vanity?

What do you think?

MAKE OVER PENCIL EYELINER! | Review

Make Over is probably among my favorite local brands when it comes to cosmetics. I think they have a good concept and they know their market well enough to come up with suitable products. A lot of their products are highly pigmented, but are still within the affordable range in terms of pricing.

Recently I got two pencil liners from Make Over, in the color Black Jack and Navy Blue. Black Jack is a standard matte black color while Navy Blue is a slightly turquoisey blue with a hint of metallic in it. Both liners are very soft and highly pigmented. The pigmentation is very opaque.

It should be noted that the liners are so soft, they might melt easily in higher room temperatures.

After waiting for about a minute or so to allow the liner swatches to dry, I tried to rub on the swatches to see how much they would smudge. Unfortunately, these liners are not smudge-proof. The black liner smudges much worse than the blue.

I noticed the same thing happened the day earlier when I wore both color on my eyelids. The black color stamped over from my top lid to my lower lid pretty quickly, while the blue smudged just slightly.

As much as I love the pigmentation in these liners, I don't think I would put them in my kit. As an option, I would probably prefer the pencil liners from Mustika Ratu, which might not be as soft, but don't smudge easily.

ECOTOOLS BRUSHES! | First Impressions

I've heard about Ecotools for a while now. One of my friends used to rave about their brushes a lot back in my school days. I never really gave them a try before. However, I knew they were made out of recycled bamboo hence the 'eco' part of the brand's name.

Recently, Luxola Indonesia had a sale on selected items, including these Ecotools' brushes I've been eyeing on. I received a 40% discount on both sets; the eye make-up brush set ended up priced at IDR 114.000,- and the mini-travel set at IDR 90.000,-. Which IMO was quite cheap for a brush set.

The eye set includes 5 brushes and a pouch. Each brush is etched with the brush's specific use. The 5 brushes are for large eye areas, angled creases, highlighting, petite eye shading, and smudging.

What surprised me the most, I guess, was the dimunitive size. I'm so used to using brushes from The Body Shop, Real Techniques, and Masami Shouko, that these full-sized brushes from Ecotools felt really small. However, if you travel a lot, this would probably be more ideal for you.

The travel set brushes are even smaller. Maybe about one centimeter shorter than the full-sized ones. Brushes included in the travel set are for shading, finishing, and defining.

The bristles are actually quite soft. I'd put them almost on par with Real Techniques. They're definitely softer than Masami Shouko. In terms of density, they are also on par with Real Techniques.

The build of the brushes are very light since the handles are made out of bamboo. The bamboo is finely finished, so you won't have to worry about blisters. It's so finely finished, in fact, I think it might be processed bamboo instead of real bamboo? Maybe? The metal wrap around the bristles is a very nice touch. I haven't washed the brushes yet (I just got them!) so I can't tell yet whether the bristles hold well enough or not.

All in all, I feel that Ecotools brushes are worth to buy on discount and would probably suit travelers the best.
